Learning Series Goals
- Define structural racism and share its connection to place, institutions and networks.
- Understand the historical policies that led to inequity that young people face, grounded in data, narrative, voices of youth.
- Identify and lift-up strategies communities are using to address structural racism within systems that serve opportunity youth and spotlight how these strategies can be layered within the OYF 7-part framework.
- Place a spotlight on individual systems (e.g., reengagement, secondary, postsecondary, etc.) and the whole opportunity youth-serving ecosystem within OYF communities to share:
- how interventions and best practices address structural racism; and
- how pathways center meaning-making interventions to improve system outcomes for opportunity youth
- Explore “meaning-making” strategies: identify affirmation, growth mindset, fostering belonging and other strategies that support young adults in altering/mitigating the impact of harmful structures.
