Colorado Youth for a Change (CYC), connects youth with opportunities to get back into school and also creates pathways, alongside caring adults, to build confidence and find success in school and beyond. CYC believes all young people can rise above seemingly insurmountable obstacles to learn, to excel in school, and to ultimately graduate. CYC will be discussing the ways in which they are addressing racial equity within their programs and within their organization. The conversation will be centered around addressing white saviorism, white cultural norms vs. transformational cultural norms and the school to prison pipeline. Additionally, CYC will discuss the ways in which the organization plans to move forward in their racial equity work (i.e. student voice, anti-oppression framework, and recruiting staff that reflect the identities of the students they serve).
